How to get TSN-enabled Controllers and Chassis

NI is adding TSN capability into our platform for distributed synchronized measurement and deterministic control.   All TSN products are available through our normal ordering process and are fully certified for deployed applications.  For applications performing deterministic communications (in addition to network synchronization) an additional software toolkit will need to be installed.  Additionally some applications will need TSN enabled network switches and network configuration software.

Below are some of the products available with TSN today:

  • cDAQ-9185: 4 slot Ethernet CompactDAQ chassis supporting synchronization and daisy chain networking (785064-01)
  • cDAQ-9189: 8 slot Ethernet CompactDAQ chassis supporting synchronization and daisy chain networking (785065-01)
  • cRIO-9035 with Synchronization: Dual core Atom, 8 slot CompactRIO controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (784774-01)
  • cRIO-9039 with Synchronization: Quad core Atom, 8 slot CompactRIO controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (784775-01)
  • cRIO-9040: Dual core Atom, 4 slot CompactRIO controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (785624-01)
  • cRIO-9041: Dual core Atom, 4 slot CompactRIO controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (786369-01)
  • cRIO-9042: Quad core Atom, 4 slot CompactRIO controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (785622-01)
  • cRIO-9043: Dual core Atom, 4 slot CompactRIO controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (785620-01)
  • cRIO-9045: Dual core Atom, 8 slot CompactRIO controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (785623-01)
  • cRIO-9046: Dual core Atom, 8 slot CompactRIO controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (786370-01)
  • cRIo-9047: Quad core Atom, 8 slot CompactRIO controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (785621-01)
  • cRIO-9048: Quad core Atom, 8 slot CompactRIO controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (785619-01)
  • cRIO-9049: Quad core Atom, 8 slot CompactRIO controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (785618-01)
  • IC-3171: Celeron Industrial Controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (784963-01)
  • IC-3172: i5 Industrial Controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (784228-01)
  • IC-3173: i7 Industrial Controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (784227-01)
  • IC-3173: i7, (32GB hard drive) Industrial Controller supporting synchronization and deterministic communications (784970-01)

Re: How to get TSN-enabled Controllers and Chassis

Hi !

Is there a chance that we can have a 4-slot cRIO chassis TSN compatible anytime soon ? Maybe a cRIO-9030 with Synchronisation ?

Re: How to get TSN-enabled Controllers and Chassis

Hi zyl7,

Thanks for reaching out. We do see TSN as a valuable technology that we'd like to integrate across the platform, but we wouldn't be able to share any more about that over the forums. Feel free to send me a private message if you have any more questions!

Thanks,

I have a couple of 9039s I purchased last year. can these be upgraded?

thank you.

Re: How to get TSN-enabled Controllers and Chassis

Hey icom724,

There are actually some hardware changes between the 9039 and 9039 Sync, and there is no upgrade path available to make those changes. It may be worth contacting your Account Manager and asking about the possibility of exchanging the 9039s for 9039 (Sync)s, but I would expect that there would be some cost associated with that.

Another option would be to use software timed-1588 on the 9039s if that meets your accuracy constraints. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about that, or if you'd like to talk through your application to see if it's worth exchanging the 9039s for TSN-enabled targets. My e-mail is ty.prather@ni.com

Thanks!
