Labview Locks Up Opening Chart Properties

Sometimes when I open up a properties dialog box for a waveform chart, the Labview 7 locks up. Other times it takes a long time to update the entry and go on to the next. Especially when editing the plot names. This seems to be always when I have a waveform chart that has multiple wave forms going into it and they are stacked plots. Any idea? It is very frustrating.

I have noticed this when using LV7 on a 800MHz machine with 256 meg of memory and the chart had a lot of data (also WinME). (I use this machine on week-ends to keep my code honest. If it can run on the old dog computer, it will run on new ones)

Try doing a "clear chart" as current as default before doing anything with the plot properties.

I understand this as due to the fact that the plot properties will generally cause a re-draw of the chart. In my case this was slow because I was running in virtual memory.

Just one idea,

Ben

Thats a good idea, I'll try that.

A bit more about the bug. It seems that the longer I have the dialog open, the slower the response gets to user inputs. The slowness seems to start when I turn on Stacked Charts. For example I have a set of 9 stacked plots. If I go through each of the formats for each scale, on the first one it takes about 5 seconds for it to respond after changing something, by the time I get to the 9th, it is about 5 minutes between my changing something and the screen updating.

Also I can make it a bit faster when I turn the smooth updates feature OFF in the Options.

Dear Kirk-

What are your machine specs? I'm thinking that this problem may be fixed by increasing your system RAM, processor speed, and/or video card. One of these system parameters could undoubtedly be bottlenecking your refresh processes if any of your hardware components are outdated.

Another thing you may want to try is changing your monitor resolution to a lower refresh frequency (60Hz), 256 colors, and lower screen resolution (800x600).

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Kind Regards,

The problem is not related to computer or RAM. I use a Dell with 2.4 GHz CPU and 512 Mb RAM, it is still very slow when working in the chart properties. Sometimes it needs 10 min to adjust a display digit number. Sometimes computer simply does not respond. More important, no other features in the LabVIEW 7.0 behave so frustrating.
