Can Labview be used to Monitor motherboard sensors?

hi..i would like to know if there is a way that we could monitor motherboards sensors? like temperature, fan speed etc. using labView
thanks

Hello Madhan,

With LabVIEW's ability to interact with external code, it should be possible to read in the motherboard's internal sensors. A quick google search for the keywords "motherboard sensors" returned some promising results on libraries that should read the sensors. You may also want to contact your motherboard manufacturer as they may have a prebuilt library or more information on how to interact with their particular sensors.

The links below should provide some information on how to interface this external code into LabVIEW.

Hi matt,
Thanks for your reply.
i am trying to find something that i could use with Intel motherboards
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/D845GERG2/index.htm

i guess intel uses Properitary software called Active monitor. but i was unable to find SDK or documentation that would help.

Their Bios displays the Temperature,Fan speed etc...but i am not sure if LabVIEW could interact with BIOS or have ways to get information from it.

once again thanks for your help

madhan,

Unfortunately no specific support for reading BIOS or motherboard registers is available in LabVIEW. This is mainly due to the fact that register locations and functions are proprietary information of the motherboard manufacturers.

Your best bet may be to contact Intel directly and see if they provide any type of interface that can be used with programming languages such as LabVIEW.
