LabVIEW for ARM processors

Many new PCs running Windows run on ARM processors (like the Snapdragon), rather than x86 architecture. LabVIEW does not support ARM.

A few years back, my LabVIEW software would work on any Windows PC. That is no longer the case. That is a huge and increasing limitation.

Agreed. Just tried to install LabVIEW on my Pi today. Remembered it's arm64 architecture so it's not going to work. ☹️

LabVIEW RT runs on some ARM targets (cRIO-9063 e.g. has ARM Cortex-A9)...

When I think about it, NI dropping Mac support in the last few years probably makes a U-turn unlikely. The newer Macs are Arm64.

ICYMI, bringing back LabVIEW for macOS is on NI Software Roadmaps - NI.

For supporting LabVIEW on Windows for ARM, I would like to ask for more information:

1. Would running in emulation meeting your needs? If not, what specific reasons would you have for needing native execution?
2. What other software (e.g., toolkits and drivers) would you want NI to prioritize supporting on Windows for ARM?

There are a few hobbyists that are running "RT" from Pis and other ARM targets. More official support would be nice though.

Is that even legal? IIRC, The OS is open source (by it's license), but the NI drivers and application licenses require NI Hardware? Has someone actually read the license? 🙄

Yes. Just bringing this up because going from illegal to supported is a much bigger step than going from unsupported to supported...

Christina, beyond just "regular LabVIEW", I for one would like to be able to run DAQmx on ARM computers, like the MS Surface tablets (recent discussion thread here: https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Can-ARM64-based-tablets-like-the-Surface-Pro-run-built/td-p/4409866).

I can't tell if LV will run fine on recent Surface tablets or not, and they're too expensive to just try it out 😞

To be clear, as of right now (circa LabVIEW 2025 Q1), do NOT attempt to install LabVIEW on Windows for ARM. There have been reports of the installer causing serious issues, and the installation process doesn't warn you that you're installing on an unsupported version of Windows.
