Turn LEDs on using the RS232 port

Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible turn on a sequence of LEDs using the serial port (RS232). If it is possible, how can I do it?
I use LabVIEW 6.0

Thanks and regards.

You could turn on a couple of LED's wired between the DTR and ground pins, and RTS and ground pins.  Then you can use the property nodes for the serial port in Labview to set them to True or false to turn on and off the pins.  But this is only 2 outputs.  I'm not sure if that is much of a "sequence".

Thanks Ravens Fan, but what do you think about to use the parallel port? I need at least five outputs.

Regards.

I think you could use the parallel port in a similar fashion with LED's.  But I don't know how to program it in Labview.  I've never tried communicating through a parallel port before where I would have to worry about its port settings.

Controlling the parallel port in Labview is easy but if I remember
right you need to make the port look like a printer by a simple
connection between two pins.

Thanks. I'm a new LabVIEW user and I  don't know how to use the parallel port as a printer. Might you tell me about? Do you remember which are these two pins?

Please reconcider using the paralel port.

One small slip in connceting your wires can fry your computers mother board. 生气表情
