I installed LabVIEW 5.1 on an XP machine and some of the VI's, such as fit to curve, do not have icons. Instead, they have a ? where the icon should be, and they cannot be inserted into my VI's. Can anyone fix this?

I am using a Dell Inspiron I8100 Laptop with Windows XP Home and am running LabVIEW 5.1 in Windows 95 compatability [I also did so for the install to get rid of the "wrong os" message]. I am able to use nearly all of the functions, but a few of them did not make the transition to my machine. I cannot use some of the VI's contained in the Mathematics sub-palette, I cannot use some of the demos, and it is really setting me back. Instead of an icon for the Mathematics>>Curve Fit sub-palette I get a ? in an icon-sized box that says Curve Fit for it
s description. Can anyone fix these broken links?

I suppose it's not much help to say that I've installed 5.1.1 on an XP Home machine and not experienced any problems. I just checked out the mathematics functions (especially the curve fitting vi's) and all are intact and functioning.

I guess it would be worthwhile uninstalling 5.1.1 and re-installing it.

The other option of course is to update to 6.1 or go back to Win 95 or 98 as others have suggested. There are some very significant improvements between 5.1 and 6.1.

Good luck,
Tim

P.S. Try converting your screen shots to jpeg or gif format. Most people won't bother looking at a 2.6MB screen shot.

Well, thanks. I was at work and just wanted to get it up quickly so I could move on to something else and come back to it later... didn't really think about people with slower connections.

I agree with Shan's suggestion of reinstalling LabVIEW. Problems with your pallettes suggests there was an installation problem.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times now... Each time it tells me there were errors with the setupx.dlls, and the NI-DAQ never really uninstalls; it is always present in my software list in add/remove software. Exactly what steps did you take to install LabVIEW 5.1 on your XP machine?

It was some time ago (> 1yr). I don't recall having any problems, so I guess I followed the standard setup dialogs. I don't use 5.1 anymore since I installed 6i and 6.1. I only keep the old versions in the event that I need to make a simple mod in an old project (and don't want to fuss with updating it to newer rev).

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

From your discussion I have seen that you try to use LV 5.1.

It seems that 5.1.1 will work correct. The difference is that 5.1.1 is compatible with Win 2000 and 5.1 is not. This can by a issue.

Another thing I have seen under Win2000 is the rights a user has. Since you use XP Home there should be no restrictions to the user of the machine. One thing to take into account is do you install and use LV as the same user?

I have made a look on our XP Professional machines.
We installed LV 5.1 and the updater 5.1 to 5.1.1 in the Win NT compabilitiy mode. Then we set the access rights for all users to full access. This is done with local administrator account.
LV 5.1.1 itself need not to run in any compabilitiy mode.

Go ahead and email tech support. They can tell you how to take most of the software off and possibly trouble shoot your daq. You can get them at www.ni.com\ask.
