Arduino not found - Mac Snow Leopard

OK, got the student bundel from sparkfun, installed VIPM, VISA drivers, VISA runtime, put the firmware base in the Arduino, but get the 5002 error.

When I run the init manually with a serial interface selected, it transmits data and I see the lights blink.  (RX only) 

there's not a browse for connected devices option under tools or help on the Mac version, like it says in the guide.

Anyone got it workin on mac out there?
