Better Palette Set Editor

Status: New

The palette file editor is in desperate need of a make-over !

It shouldbe possible to:

  1. Add libraries/classes/projects to a palette and create a whole tree of menus automatically
  2. Edit individual vi icons as well as palette menu icons
  3. Rename (i.e. Save As...) a palette file and have the refering links renamed optionally (a bit like the save as for a vi dialog).
  4. Exclude files and directories according to user defineably patterns when synchronising to disk
  5. Copy/Paste palette entries rather than just move them
Probably some other things, but that's good enough for starters.

Sounds like you want something like JKISoft's VIPM (VI Package Manager).  They created VIPM to handle all the stuff you want and more, so you don't have to 🙂

Indeed, but very reasonably, JKI want some money for this feature. Unfortunately, more of my hard-earned grant money than I can justify spending on fixing irritations and limitations in the LabVIEW IDE.

I support this request.

Ideally, I would like to be able to grab any object (VI, function, etc) and drag and drop it into any of the palette "folders".

Moreover, I would like to have palette folders automatically open and reveal their underlying structure of objects/subpalettes if I hover over them long enough with the object I want to drop.

Then autosave this configuration.

The current approach is truly prehistoric 🙂 but could be preserved to allow associating a folder with a palette menu, etc...
