Hi
Can I confirm that the PCIe-GPIB is backwards compatible ? I need to run it with software from 1999 that is out of production. This software uses the PCI-GPIB and PCI slots are hard to come by now.
Thanks for reading

Hi PatMcC,
Do you want to know if the PCIeGPIB card is compatible with 1999 software or with a PCI slot?
For the software/OS, it depends on your software or OS: The card itself is compatible with Windows Vista/XP/2000
Regarding the HW compatibility, there is some information here: https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000019N1YSAU&l=en-US.
In a nutshell, you cannot insert PCIe HW in a PCI slot, the former is serial and the latter is parallel. Some adapters are sold, but NI doesn't provide them.

Hi Chaka
Thanks. So I have to run software from circa 1999 on modern hardware. I won't be able to buy a new computer with PCI slots. I want to buy a GPIB-PCIe card to use with a new computer. The software runs fine on 64 bit systems, I have run it on Windows 8+ but I am concerned that if I buy a PCIe card, that the software will not find it. My limited understanding is that PCIe and PCI are not important at the application level. I assume that if I install the PCIe card with current drivers, that the old software will be able to find it and use it but I am not sure and the card is expensive.

I have used these recently to support legacy PCI card based systems on PC's with only PCIe slots.
Works like a charm.

Hi AnalogKidDigitalMan
Thanks very much for the link. I know I won't be "dead in the water" now.
Just to confirm though.... does this mean that you do not think the GPIB-PCIe is an viable option?
