Freshly installed Client [21.5.2] does not connect to freshly installed Server [21.5.1]

Client config dialog grinds on Attempting to Connect before showing Disconnected.  It is never recognized by the server.

Server is set up to use HTTPS with self-signed cert at port 443.

From the client system I can ping the server at its hostname and IP and can navigate to https://server-hostname in a browser and get the systemlink dashboard.

Firewall on both systems is (temporarily) disabled.

Salt minon log show the same entries over and over

  • Error 2564 and 10696, The Salt Master has cached the public key for this node, this salt minion will wait for 10 seconds before attempting to re-authenticate
  • Warning 10696, Failed to create the AssetPerformanceManagementHttpWriter with a valid config

I saw my father do some work on a car once as a kid and I asked him "How did you know how to do that?" He responded "I didn't, I had to figure it out."

On the client how are you specifying the server? Note, it should only be the server-hostname. Not, https://server-hostname since the client initially connects over TCP/IP ports 4505 and 4506. Once it is approved, the server will generate the appropriate credentials and certificates for the client and configure it so that it can publish data using the settings specified in the NI Web Server configuration utility.

On the client it is just the hostname with the IP failover.  No https.  Only using that in a browser for web access.
