NI USB-6215 device recognition problem

I installed the NI USB-6215 on my PC and it works fine (Win XP Pro
SP2), using NI-DAQmx s/w v8.3.

However, I can not get the NI USB-6215 to work on my laptop (Win XP Pro
SP2), even though I set it up exactly the same as for my PC.

I plug the NI USB-6215 into the laptop USB port, and I hear the "USB
sound"

However, the NI "New Data Acquisition Device" loader program does not
pop up (like it does for the PC).

In "Control Panel" => "System" => "Hardware" => "Device Manager", a
"Data Acquisition Devices" tab is present, with "USB-621x Loader"
working properly.

If I launch the Measurement & Automation Explorer and right click
"Devices and Interfaces" => the "NI-DAQmx Devices" is not present.

Autorun is not disabled.

I believe that the problem is with the "New Data Acquisition Device"
loader program.

I have eliminated the Firewall as been the source of the problem.

Thank you for any advice that you can offer.

Hi Nomed,

Have you tried uninstalling the device completely and installing again? For most cases I've run across it is as simple as that. Try following these steps:

1. Power down the 6215 and unplug it

2. If "USB-621x Loader" still shows up under device manager, delete it. Optional - restart your computer

3. Power on the 6215 and plug it into the usb - it should go through the same auto install that you saw on your PC

You can also try right clicking on the "USB-621x Loader" under device manager and selecting "update driver"

Hope this helps, please post back if this doesn't (or does) resolve your issue,

Hi Andrew,

I tried this and also a compete re-install of the drivers to no avail.

I got the hardware to work on a similar laptop so I think the only way
around my problem is a complete rebuild of the offending laptop.

Thanks for your post

I had the same problem with a USB 6210 & 6211.
I solved the problem by formatting the HD and re-installed the OS and everthing, except ZoneAlarm.
Once I installed ZA, the USB DAQ module ceased to work again, even if I uninstalled ZA.
Fortunately I was able to do a system restore to a point before the ZA was installed.
