Extremely Slow Install LabView 8.2

Trying to install LV8.2 Student for USB 6009 I/O Bd. on an AMD XP1800+/1.54GHz/512 MB/ XP Home SP2/Tons of Disk (>17GB) system. Took almost 2 hrs. to install via a 52x CD. Got an error (1402 Key UNKNOWN\OPC.ServerList.1\CSLID). Fixed error in registry per NI instructions. Tried to run repair. Took another 1 hr. All the while the drive was churring like crazy. After all this, the Measurement program used to detect the USB 6009 never detected the bd.
Took over 10 minutes to re-boot the computer (prior to installing LV 8.2 computer booted in a minute or so. FAST!)
Uninstalled the software. Took almost 7 hrs!
Thankfully when everything was uninstalled computer resumed its peppy boot and response. Concerned about re-installing due to the time involved and the previous almost disasterous effect on the computer.
Any and all suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

Do you have XP Service Pack 2 installed?
Does the CD have any scratches or damage? Do you have another CD you can try?
Have you ran disk cleanup and defrag lately?
Do you Administrative rights on the PC?
Do other software packages install OK from the CD drive?

The only reference to a 1402 I found was here:

Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestions.

SP2 - Yes.
Defrag - Yes, often.
CD scratches - None, brand new out of box.
Other CD - LabViewSE came w/USB-6009.
Recently installed software from that CD w/o problems.

Anit-virus software disabled.
No other applications running during install (per Task manager.)

Again thanks.

Hello USB USer,

This is Dominic L. from Applications Engineering at National Instruments. I would suggest copying the CD to your hard drive before re-installing LabVIEW 8.2 Student Edition. Your computer meets the system requirements thus you should not encouter any problems during installation. However, if you still have issues during the re-installation please feel free to let us know. We would be happy to help.

Have a nice evening!

Best Regards,

Dominic L.
