6008 Configuration Problem

I'm having problems configuring my usb-6008 device.  I installed the correct drivers for the device but it is not recognized by the NI-DAQmx Base Task Configuration Utility.  However, MAX does show that the device is communicating with the device.  Whenever I hit the "refresh device" in the configuration utility, an error msg is created, which states:
"Error -1 occurred at an unidentified location
Possible reasons: NI-DAQmx Base was not able to find a device compatible with this task."
 
I also tried creating a new task, but the "okay" button is grayed out so I cannot press it.  Could someone please suggest what I could possibly be doing wrong? I am currently using NI_DAQmx Base ver. 1.4. Thanks in advance...

If you are in windows, which it looks like you are (if you are using MAX), then I strongly recommend programming your device with NI-DAQmx, not NI-DAQmx Base.  Having said that, I would guess that your problem is directly related to this KB.
