how to findout/control frame rate of image capture?

Hi,

I have built a vi(modified from "sequence and save to AVI.vi") to capture images and save them. I can specify the number of images that I am capturing but I cannot specify the rate at which the images are being captured, since there is no such option in "IMAQ Sequence.vi".

1) How can I find the rate at which my program is capturing the images?

2) How can I control the capture frame rate without having to use writeto AVI function(vi)?

The reason that I cannot use the "sequence and save to AVI.vi" is that it is compatible only with 8bit and RGB images whereas the camera that I am using produces a I16 image. And I cannot cast it to 8bit image, as I cannot find the "IMAQ Cast Image.vi" function even after installing VDM 8.6(my labview version is 8.6 and IMAQ is 4.0). Vision.txt contains the list of NI programs installed on my machine.

I am using a PCI 1426 framegrabber and Imperix "X2M30HL" camera (specs say that its frame rate is 33) and I am running on Windows XP.

Is there any option for me to capture images at high rate(close to offered by the camera) other than using "IMAQ Sequence.vi".

Hi Sandeep,

I'm a little concerned that you cannot see the IMAQ Cast Image VI on your PC. If we can find this VI, from your description, it seems like you will be good to go.

On my PC, IMAQ Cast Image is located in the Vision and Motion»Vision Utilities»Image Management palette in LabVIEW.  If you cannot locate it there, it is located inside an LLB (LabVIEW Library) on your PC that you can locate.  It is here on my PC:

<LabVIEW>\vi.lib\vision\Management.llb

where <LabVIEW> is the path to your LabVIEW 8.6 directory.  Please let me know if you can't find the VI you seek.

I cannot  see the "Management.llb" at the location you mentioned. What do I do next?

Hi Sandeep,

I would repair or reinstall VDM at this point.  It is likely an issue with the install, especially if you have upgraded LabVIEW recently.  Please let me know if this doesn't solve the issue.

Thanks for your suggestion, re-installing VDM has resolved the issue. Can you help me out with more thing?

All my installations are currently in evaluation mode and I would like to convert it to licensed mode. But the thing is, I have installed so many evaluation software onto my computer that I no longer know which is required and which is not. My system has a PCI 1426 framegrabber and I require rapid image capture and storing and image manipulation capabilities. From what I know here is the list of things that I would require

1) LabVIEW 8.6

2) Vision Acquisition Software 8.6

3) Vision Development Module 8.6

Anything else that I would require and any of the above(VAS 8.6) not required?

I am pretty sure the PCI 1426 comes with a license for the Vision Acquisition Software, so you won't have to buy that.  You will need to purchase licenses for the other two.

What kind of camera is the Mightex?  That is, how are you connecting it to the computer?
