Dear treeman and s_a_s,

it's now a while ago since you discussed the random FIFO overflow problem. Since I have very similar problem I just wonder whether you finally found a solution by checking the used hardware.
I am using the NI PCIe 1429 together with  a Mikrotron EoSens Full CL camera, which allows 10 taps x 8 bit providing about 500 Hz maximum  frame rate at a resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels. I also use a Dell precision workstation (tough being the precision 690), which we only bought 6 month ago. The card is similarly plugged into a PCI Express x8 card slot wired as x4 of which there are 2 more. After aquiring a random number of frames I get the FIFO overflow error. Though there is somewhat a correlation with frame rate and frame size the error appears also at greatly reduced rates and sizes, e.g. at 60 Hz. I use Labview 8.2 and the error is not dependent on the aquisition mode. It happens at different grabbing modes within Labview but also just using MAX.

I would be very happy to hear from in case you found a solution. Is this a Dell specific problem?

Thanks

Hi ralfseidelXXX,
I am going to have to look into what is happening here and see if I can find what the solution to the problem is.  Give me a little while and I will post again.

Hello,

it looks that we can somehow solve the problem by placing the NI PCIe 1429 into the 16x PCIe slot of the graphics card and using an old PCI graphics card. Please have a look on the other thread where I discuss this issue:
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=200&thread.id=18257&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
It looks that we can now work with it, but a more satisfactory solution to that problem would be appreciated.

Best,

Ralf

Hi ralfseidelXXX,

Thanks for showing me that other thread.  We do ask that you try and keep one thread per question so we do not have multiple people working on it.  I have spoken with the developer that Elmar mentioned and he is going to keep me updated on what is going on.  When we figure out what is happening I will post up what we find.

No I have not solved the problem and still get the random errors. Frame size/ fps does not seem to be the problem. With too high frame rates/image sizes I simply lose frames. I cannot cause the overflow error on purpose such as wasting cpu cycles in the grabbing loop.  The overflow is due to something else. I have 4GB memory but since I am using 32bit I only can access 3.12GB. Could that be a problem?

I notice that there is now a newer driver. I can give that a try.

Hi treeman,

I also posted my problem on a different thread: http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=200&message.id=18426#M18426
NI promised to look into this problem and it seems that there are more people with the same issue. Just have a look into the other thread in case there will be future progress.

Best,

 Ralf
