Image acquisition speed

I'm acquiring images from a Hitachi KPF120 camera using a NI 1429 board. I'm using the IMAQ Snap function to a host buffer. The time to acquire a 1392 x 1040 image runs at ~275 milliseconds.

I was hoping to get image acquisition times on the order of the frame rate of the camera (~50 ms, say), so the 275ms seems pretty slow. What factors influence the image capture speed? Can I speed this up and, if so, how?

TIA -

Hi James,

Thanks for using our discussion forum.  There is a knowledgebase on our website that discusses this particular issue:

AE KB 35S0TANF: How Fast Can I Acquire Images Using My Image Acquisition Card?  http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/62401D3DB98EABBF86256E2A002BD260?OpenDocument

There is also an image rate calculator included in this KB which helps you calculate the approximate data-rate you can expect based on image size, resolution, and desired frames/second.
