Firewire port failure

Hi, I read something about firewire port failure because of cables. Can anyone explain me what such an accident could cause to a firewire camera? Would it be completely failed or a simple substitution of the port could solve the problem?

Hi mag93,

I'm not quite sure if I understand your question.

If you are using National Instrument FireWire driver, the driver wont find the port, until you'll have a camera conected to the port. If something is wrong with the cables, the driver could not detect the port. If you are using a laptop, and the firewire port has only 4 pins, then the camera is not getting any power from the laptop, so ti wont find the port, because the camera is not turn on.

Hi, I would want to add on.

I face the problem when the IEEE1394 slot is missing from the MAX. This is because when the camera is not turn on/connected to the port, the driver wont detect it. The most frequent problem lies not in faulty firewire cable, but cable connecting the camera is loose.
