Firewire Linescan Camera

I am just spec'ing a project that will use 2 linescan cameras I would like to go with Firewire. Do the Firewire modules (boards and software) of NI work well (and quick) with linescan cameras - info regarding anybody's experiences with firewire linescans and the NI kit would be appreciated. Also which board would you recommend.

Hi,

Can you give some details about the cameras (like Manufac.)?

Thanks,

ISG makes linescan FireWire cameras, called LightWise, that work well with NI hardware and software.  Because of the higher level of synchronization required in linescan applications, people usually plug these cameras into FireWire hardware with integrated DIO, like the NI Compact Vision System or the PCI-8254R.  Here are their webpages:

https://www.ni.com/en-us/shop/category/machine-vision.html

https://www.ni.com/en-us/support/model.pcie-8255.html

Finally, here is the webside for ISG:  http://www.isgchips.com/index2.html

In my experience, the guys there are well versed in how to integrate their cameras with NI hardware and software.  If you have more details about your application, I may be able to help further.

Thanks for your contributions - I had looked at the LIGHTWISE sometime ago - I liked the specification especially the variable resolution.

The project requires inspection of 25mm Diameter tubing in real time as it is manufactured (line speed 0.5 meters per second).

Two cameras probably required - 1st camera backlit in order to measure the tubing outer contours. 2nd Camera front lit to do some blob analysis.

I suspect I will also need to do some Fourier analysis with camera 1.
