Archive database will not save correctly to CD

This question relates to my other post regarding transfer of database.

How to I transfer my old database to my new computer?

I managed to get my old database with all the data onto the new computer by detaching the default database (using Max) and moved it to a temp folder.  I then copied the recovered database into the old location. I did the same for my new database_backup. Then I archived the default database into the recovered database (it had two weeks of data I needed).  I then used Citadale to archive the database into the backup  file.  Everything works, when I view the traces using Max I can see all my data going back over the years, in both files.

Now my problem is that I am trying to copy the database_backup to a CD and have a hard copy stored.

However whenever I copy this file to the database I only get the two weeks of stored data and any new data stored not the old data.

I have tried detaching the database_backup and copying it. But still does not work.

Any thoughts.

From your description, you have three parts of data, old data, two weeks of data and the new data. Before you copy to CD, if you attach the database_backup in MAX, and view the data, can you see all the data? If yes, we can say that the database_backup has all the data. If you just detach, copy and attach, the data should not be lost.

Make sure that when you copy the database to CD, all the files in the database folder have been copied.

Then, you "copy this file to the database". Is it after you burn the CD and want to retrieve the data? I think what you should do is to copy all files from CD to an empty folder, and use MAX to attach the database with those files. How did you "copy the file to database"? Did you copy all the files to an empty folder on hard drive?

I have not copied the back-up file to an empty folder. I was detaching the database_backup file and copying that across.

It looks like only half of the files are transferring.

I used DVD-RW disks and found that all the files were not transfering.

On a whim I purchased a different brand of DVD's and all the data transfered.

If I have problems in the future I will try copying the database_backup file to an empty folder and then try copying.

I would also recommend trying different brands of DVD's.
