sound application interference

I need to control an analog device via an USB Sound interface. Using the LV Sound VIs I found that other sound applications like Windows Media Player or system sounds interfere with my application. How to solve the problem? How can I block other sound applications while running my program?

Yup, it's a problem. You also will notice eventually that the soundcard has
undocumented filters, poor voltage control, and unexplainable cuting-out of
the sound.

You can try going into the control panel and removing all system sounds.
However in the end you're probably going to want to replace the soundcard
with a real DAQ card. It's less hassle and windows sounds will never
interfere. For the reason you mention, the sound card is really not useful
in measurement applications. I was very unhappy with the control over my SB
Live as well.

Some times the right answer is not what people want to hear.

You do not use a bike to tow a truck.
