nipalsm.exe CPU usage

Occaisionally, perhaps once a month or so, when starting up LabView 7.1, the PXI chassis computer virtually hangs.  Opening Task manager shows one instance of nipalsm.exe using 100% of the CPU.  Rebooting the computer clears the issue, for a while.  Identical software and hardware runs on another test stand without this issue.

I'm wondering about reinstalling software, but not sure which package(s) would be appropriate.  Or any other suggestions!

nipalsm.exe = NI Platform Abstration Layer ....

Try using the "repair" option available on the installer disk.

Does this mahcine still have verions 6 of LV on it? I had to de-install LV 6 on my machine due to NIPALSM.exe goobling all of my CPU every time I booted.
