labview classes

Experts,

I have just created my first (trivial) VI using classes, and I really like them, especially the quick was to create accessor methods.  At the moment I plan  to use them like LV2 style globals, and will not delve into  inheritance and other OO type issues.

However, I have seen quite a few negative comments on the forum regarding using them in built applications (things like the class VIs not being included in the exe, trouble actually building the exe, creating huge exes).

So, my question is essentially this: is the LabVIEW class ready for prime time in LV8.5?

National Instruments is committed to providing object oriented programming within LabVIEW and we have had many customers successfully develop entire applications with this.

We rely heavily of customer suggestions and feedback to continuously improve our products. If there are any particular issues you are concerned with we will be happy to talk to yiou about them.

Hi nrp,

A lot of bugs got fixed in LV 8.5.

The only issues that I am aware of affect applications .... and even that one has a work-around. I have not heard of any "show-stoppers".

LAVA may have more to say on this subject.

Trying to help,

Ben

I have seen tremendous instabilities in LabVIEW 8.5 using a few simple classes.  I get random crashes when editing the code that doesn't seem related to any sequence of events.  I have not touched that part of my code for about 4 weeks since it is finally working fine.

I really like the power of classes, but I doubt I will continue using them since the crashes reduce my productivity which I can't afford (schedules in the automotive industry are brutal).
