labview 8 splash screen

When I double click on a top level VI to open a project, the Labview 8 splash screen pops up and the status says "Finishing Initialization". The splash screen stays up for several MINUTES, and then eventually the project loads.

Accompanying this freeze is a mesagebox that pops up BEHIND the splash screen that reads "Windows cannot find the file .....Main.VI. Make sure you typed the name correctly....". It makes no difference if I click OK or not- the splash screen still stays up, and eventually the project loads.

Very strange. Am I the only one seeing this?

Also, if i run Labview 8 from the start menu (as opposed to double clicking a .vi) I get the same thing- splashscreen stays up for 3-4 minutes.

I have read many reports of how slow LV 8 is starting up.

I have heard NO reports of "Why what how etc"

It being treated like a "read-headed step child" as if ignoring it, might make it go away.

WARNING: sarcasm follows! Smiley Wink

The only I fix that I can hope for at this time was included in my confirmation letter re:Registering LV8. See below.

" I wonder what the heck its waiting for....."

Same here! Although I would have spelled "heck" differently.

BTW: Generally, applications that hang a long time but do not show CPU use are usually waiting for files from disk or some other I/O device.

Unfortunately I am trying to troubleshoot an application that has a habit of crashing.. So im constantly reloading LV8. Im just about to spell "HECK" a lot differently myself 🙂 In fact, I'm spelling all KINDS of four letter words! Thanks for your input. Glad to know its not just me....

Maybe this can help you, although it's not very likely.

Many slow startup roblems have been linked to license manager issues. Do you have many other programs installed that use licenses?
