build an application in labview 7.1

Hi,

I am able to run a particular vi in labview 7.1 and till recently was able to build an application for it. Now when I want to build an application for the same vi or other vi's, nothing seems to happen when I click "build". It gets greyed out for a few fractions of a second but it doesnt build or save the application. None of the sub vi's appear in vi settings either. I am not aware of any path changes; I have tried mass compiling, saving as a development distribution, having the target location closer to the root directory, etc. Any idea what the problem might be and how I could fix it?

Just guessing here:

In the builder, check the "Source Files" tab. Make sure to add the desired toplevel VI to the list. (It seems in your case the list is initially empty).

thanks for the reply. Yes, the source file list is initially empty. I build my application from a blank vi (otherwise I get error 7) and then add the top vi in the source files. I have a number of sub vi's (mainly imaq and write to spreadsheet) but none of them are called using the VI server or call by reference in my program. But even if I add them through "add dynamically files" they don't appear in the VI settings list. Any other suggestions?

I am experiencing exactly the same problems ie. Error 7 sometimes and an empty VI Settings page . Loading the same vi into LabVIEW on another PC, I get no errors when building.

Also, like you, I had no problems until recently when I was trying to build from files in a synchronised folder on a server rather than from local files. All my references are now local so that can't be a cause of the problem.

If it works on another computer but not yous, it sounds possible that your LabVIEW installation may have been corrupted.  Try repairing your installation by going to the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, select National Instruments, then go to LabVIEW and select Modify/Repair.

Spot on! I had already re-installed the Appplication Builder with no success but after reinstalling the Runtime Application all was well.
