Agreed! This bug is so annoying and the "solution" of coloring the string the same as your background does not work a lot of times when trying to make a fancy UI, like if the background is a slight gradient.

Here's a real workaround:

You can (tested) also put the method in a callback even, if you don't want to add complexity to your main vi.

Just to close this off - this bug is fixed in LabVIEW 2020 (so I understand).
