SSI USB

Hi,

I have used the supplied libraries with LabVIEW 8.5.

Ihave not used more than one card in a single PC. Deva's techinical support is good, give them a call.

Does anyone know how to get a PXI bus SSI interface board? It seems that Deva doesn't provide products on PXI platform.

And why doesn't NI provide products like SSI interface boards? As I know there does exist lots of needs about this.

Hi Leon,

Unfortunately, due to the number of protocols available, it is extremeley difficult to produce dedicated plug in  interface boards for all available protocols. We make every effort and take much debate in the development of plug in boards for various protocols, but the range of platforms on which we can produce makes it even more difficult. Whilst there is unfortunately no plugin board vailable on PXI at this moment in time, future developments could make this a possibility.

There is one plausable route that you could take however is by looking into using FPGA perhaps? Could this be a possibility for you?

Hi,

The USB-8451 will allow you to utilize SPI and I2C interface protocols within LabVIEW, but this doesn't natively support SSI

All the best,

so what is my best option to take a ssi signal into labview via usb?  i have a ssi to serial converter box but i like the portability of usb.

I was unable to find an SSI USB device. I ended up using a PCI card (obviously no good for a laptop!).

Hi,

I'm afraid that if you wish to communicate via SSI then USB isn't an option for you and PCI/PXI form factor is required with FPGA to program the SSI logic.

All the best,

BEI Industrial Encoders has a couple of products that convert SSI encoder signal to USB.  I haven't used them so can't speak to how well they work, as I am just starting this inverstigation myself.

You may want to consider using a stand-alone SSI Interface Controller. Here's one that I found that works nicely.
