Real-Time Desktop Utility, cannot use keyboard

Hi,

I created USB boot device using this

http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/1369/lang/en

When I boot from the USB it stays hanging at the message "Waiting USB to initialize...". As suggested elsewhere I take out the USB stick for a few second and put it back in and I usually see the list similar to Figure 1 at this site

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/9209361E17708D548625744A007FF353

Now, when I try to select any option the keyboard just doesn't respond. The keyboard is an USB one and it does work because I need to type in the system password before I get to the USB boot.

So when this list comes up I am unable to select any options.

The PC itself does not have any PS/2 plug for an alternative keyboard.

I welcome any suggestion regarding how to get around this problem.

Thanks,

Krivan

Problem has been solved. The RT system is running now.

Please tell how you solved it.  That way if anyone searches the forums with the same problem, they can learn from your experience.

The solution was actually very simple. I accidentally realized that the down arrow on the keyboard has to be pressed for at least 2 second and then it was possible to use the keyboard.

And another thing, it would be great if the SATA hard drives were supported in the USB boot process as well. I tried here many different computers and I could make progress only if I abandoned the SATA functionality from the BIOS. Unfortunately for hardware reasons I need to use a machine that does not have this option in BIOS [cannot switch SATA to PATA] so I am using at the moment IDE-based hard drives that are working properly. The disadvantage is that the IDE HDD is slower than the SATA one so if there is a solution to use SATA HDDs without the need of switching off SATA please let me know.

I am having exactly the same problem with the keyboard not working.

It works initially during boot as I can enter the BIOS OK.

But then I notice the keyboard num-lock light goes off when the following message appears;

"Transferring control to user program"

and then

"Waiting for USB to initialise", very briefly appears

and then

the menu selections appear but I cannot select anyone of them as the arrow keys, the number keys and the enter key do not work.

You suggestion of holding down the down arrow key does not work for me.

Please help if you can.

Hi Bobby,

have you tried to boot from another USB stick? It helped me actually.

Also, you need to switch off the SATA functionality in BIOS. In my BIOS there was no option for that so I had to get an IDE-based HDD. If you had the same trouble, make sure that while your RT system boots from the IDE HDD the SATA drives are physically off, e.g. pull off their power connector. If they are on and switched off only from BIOS you'll get error messages like "cannot find bootable C drive", etc.

Hope this helps.
