Problems Using Remote Front Panels with LabVIEW 8.6

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi All,

I have a LabVIEW Real-Time executable which I have deployed and is running on a cFP-2220, and now I want to access the front panel of that executable from a local computer connected to it.  I am trying to do this by running a VI on the local computer which uses the "RP.Open Connection To Server" VI.  I used a similar setup with a cFP and LabVIEW 8.5 and it worked great.  I have gone through lots of documentation on the NI site on how to set it up, and have done all the usual things:

I have the VI in a project deployed onto the cFP.

I have enabled the web server and VI server on the target.

I am passing the correct VI name, IP address and port to RP.Open Connection To Server

I can verify that the RT executable is running on the cFP when I deploy it.  My problem occurs when I initiate the call to RP.Open Connection To Server, the VI executes the call, but the front panel of the RT executable on the cFP never opens, and I never receive an error from the calling VI (I have an error out from the RP VI to both a dialog and indicator, and I get nothing).  It calls the RP VI, but then waits indefinitely and never opens the Front Panel of the RT executable.  This exact same problem occurs when I try to make the remote front panel using the web publishing tool, or when I use the "Connect To Remote Front Panel" option in LabVIEW.

Has anyone ever seen this before, or know of anything I might be doing wrong?  Is this a problem with 8.6?

Thanks.

Hi,

Are you using FieldPoint 6.0.2?  We have a Corrective Action Report (#125870) for the remote front panels for the cFP-2220 with LabVIEW 8.6 and FieldPoint 6.0.2.  R&D is currently working on a fix, until then, the only known workaround is to using LabVIEW 8.5.1.

I have found another issue with the cFP2220 and remote panels. The App property node "RemotePanel.ConnToClients" (code running on the cFP) returns an error code 2 if any remote panel connections are active. I have tried the same property with a cFP2020 and it works fine. I am using LabVIEW 8.5.1 and FieldPoint 6.0.2 (minimal). I haven't tested it with 8.6 yet as I haven't been able to get any access to the cFP webserver running 8.6RT.

Yes you are right, it was a problem with 8.6.  I've downgraded the cFP to 8.5.1 and it's working great.  Thanks for your help.

I have recieved confirmation from NI R&D that there are problems with the LabVEIW RT 8.6 webserver. This has been addressed hopefully with other remote panel issues in LabVIEW 8.6.1 due out early next year.
