Need some help

I am a beginner at using labview and do not have any kind of training. I was assigned a lab project from a professor (in a non-labview course, our college doesn't offer a course in labview) and do not have the slightest idea were to begin with the software.
In our assignment we are required to:
-simulate a vibrationmeasurement with a laser displacement sensor.
-read an analog voltage signal (-4V to 4V) from a channel configured for the laser displacment sensor. The vibration freq. is around 50 hz and is suggested that the sampling freq. be around 500hz.
-convert the voltage reading to the displacement of the beam.
-show the wave form of the beam displacement vibration signal and display its freq. on the front panel.
-Output the original voltag
e data to a spreadsheet file.
-should contain less than 10 icons.

I am in no way looking for someone to do this for me, just point me in the right direction, give me some advice as to which icons to use, something. Right now, I haven't a clue.

Go to the Help menu and choose "Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf...". There will be several options available, but you should probably go for "Getting Started With LabVIEW." Work through this, then look at the other concepts for things you may have missed.

You can pretty easily do most of this with the Express VIs. You will need to use the DAQ Assistant for the data acquisition. However, make sure you go through the getting started guide so you know the basic concepts behind how LabVIEW works. It has similarities to text based languages, but in other ways is very different.

There is also a huge number of examples that ship with LabVIEW, as well as a large number of templates. Get to the examples using Help->Find Examples... Get to the templates by select
ing File->New.

As a student you can also go to ni.com/academic and look at the LabVIEW Training options available there. One that I would recommend is the LabVIEW Interactive Training CD.
