Labview runtime engine plugin problem in Mac OS X

Hi:

We have just recently acquired a macBook Pro and am trying to test some instrumentation modules we have previously developed online for Circuit Theory courses on the MAc platform.

These VI's are installed on lab view server and we have no difficulty accessing them in Windows XP or Vista from a browser either Firefox or IE. Of course the latest version of runtime engine is installed on the pc prior to accessing the vi using remote panel and secondly we have to disable any virus protection software.

I have also installed the 8.5 version of LV runtime engine on the macbook with Leopard 10.5.x OS. I can see the LV plugin with the proper version in the Installed plug in check for the Safari browser. But every time the Remote panel is accessed I get a missing plugin message.

Here is the message:

Safari cannot find the Internet plug-in.

The page “Blackboard Academic Suite” has content of MIME type “application/x-labviewrpvi82”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page:

http://digital.ni.com/express.nsf/express?openagent&code=exck2m&

Do you want to open the page?

The page it suggests is the NI site for the plugin download?

I am really in a corner and donot know what I am doing is wrong? Any help will be appreciated?

I'm not a Mac expert, but it sounds like you are missing the LabVIEW Browser Plugin which is necessary to view remote front panels.  That plugin installs with the LabVIEW runtime engine which you can find here.  I don't think Safari requires any extra configuration to work with the plugin but it might... let us know if installing the runtime engine doesn't resolve the problem.

I have already installed the LV runtime engine in Mac. Here is what is shown in the Safari browser installed plugin

NI LabVIEW 8.5 Internet Plug-in for Macintosh
Launches the National Instruments LabVIEW Browser Helper — from file “LV85HelperLauncher.plugin”.
MIME Type Description Extensions
application/x-labviewrpvi85 LabVIEW Virtual Instrument Front Panel rpvi85

Hi Vishnu,

So, from your error message it appears that the vi you are accessing was written in LabVIEW 8.2. (application/x-labviewrpvi82). However, you have the LabVIEW 8.5 Run Time Engine installed. The link Travis posted will take you to where you can download the LabVIEW Run Time Engines. You will want to check whether your vi was built in LabVIEW 8.2 or 8.2.1 and download the appropriate Run Time engine.

I have installed all the LVBrowserhelper plugins for versions 7 8 8.2.1 and 8.5

I modified the server html files source code by changing "82" to "85" wherever it existed.

The module as modified is at the following URL

http://lvmodules.odu.edu/Passive%20sign%20convention.html The source code can be looked there.

Note that the vi was created in version 82.

After this change, the vi opens in Safari Browser, but I get

"Error 1345: invoke node in browserhelpin"

Note they work well in PC browsers.

Vishnu,

You shouldn't modify the server source files by changing the number. That probably won't help in the long run. What I would recommend doing is doing a fresh install of the LabVIEW 8.2 run time engine.

I have the same problem. A new OS-X Powerbook Pro, downloaded runtime 8.2.1 for web access to 8.2.1 LabVIEW, but no internet plug-in was installed.

Hi Jdpowell,

Check this KnowledgeBase. It has the Internet Plug-ins for Macs.

I am having similar problems on my mac. I went to download the 8.2 version of runtime however that is not working. Even after running the plugin installer, there is still no evidence of it in the internet plugins folder or when I ask safari to show me the plugins installed.

I went to the knowledgebase article that you gave in this thread and downloaded the folder containing the mac osx rfp plugins and dragged them to the internet plugins folder however this made no difference. Still the same situation. There is no evidence of the plugins in safari help-installed plugins dialog again. What would you suggest?

best

Like David, I also couldn't get the 8.2 plugin to work, even after I dragged it into the internet plugin folder. In the end I gave up and upgraded my main computer to 8.5 and found the 8.5 runtime plugin to work (and install) fine.
