When building a stand alone application I would like to compile in a custom icon...project->build->app setteings->custom icon. It looks as though LabVIEW expects a .ico file containing 4 individual icons (32x32 16col, 16x16 16col, 32x32b&w and 16x16b&w). How is this done? Is there a vi to accomplish this? Paul F. I've created an .ico file containing those four icons using M$ Developer Studio. If you don't have access to that then you may be able to find a freeware/shareware program on the web that will create these as well. I hope this helps point you in the right direction.
no, I do not have access to developer studio. Which freeware/shareware program?...I've tried in vain to find one capable of this feat! It sure would be nice if there was a LabVIEW vi to accomplish this (compilation, concatination, whatever) tnx anyway paul

You should be able to find any number of icon editors (like Microangelo) by doing a web search or by going any number of sites that are for shareware/freeware (i.e. tucows.com).
I have been looking for one for a while. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find one that will let me include icons with different sizes and different colour schemes. LabVIEW chokes if you try to give it an icon file that does not contain all 4 icons. If anyone finds an icon editor that will work, please let us know.
I think that creating custom icons is a little bit beyond the prupose of LabVIEW. As Dennis pointed out, you can search the shareware/freeware sites. I just downloaded the program he suggested (Microangelo) and it is capable of creating the proper .ico file.
Why is this beyond the purpose of LabVIEW? It already has an icon editor for vi's.

Someone could probably create one in LabVIEW but with so many freeware/shareware programs out there, why bother. Besides, not everyone uses the application builder and of those who do, not everyone cares about using a different icon than the default. Personally, I find creating meaningful icons a real pain and always use the default. I seldom use draw a picture for a VI icon and instead just put some text there.
Yeah it creates an icon to represent that vi on a block diagram. It does not create a any .ico files as far as I know. I guess you're right, it would be nice to have an actual icon editor as part fo the Application Builder, but I wouldn't expect it.
