Hi Marc,
I am sorry that I can not list all of the issue involved because it has been a while since I saw that problem.
The issues you are running into are due to MicroSoft's decision to re-arrange things with every major release.
I do not believe you should have to do any special install of Excel to get things going.
What I think is happeneing is that you are using Excel 97 and the example is set-up for a newer version of Excel.
How to fix.
1) Contact NI support, they may have a link that will save you a lot of work.
or,
2) Update Excel
or,
3) Manually go through the example code an manually browse to the right classes and re-link. (this can be challenging if you are not familiar with activeX and Excel).
Warning! Rambling rant follows.

This "move it around" mentality drives me nuts! You sit down in front of new machine and go looking for some setting or option and what do you know, its not there any more! Have you tried to set your file associations with Windows XP lately?
Done with rant.
