LabVIEW Application won't download to PDA using Mobile 5.0

<<< Before I installed the Windows Mobile 5.0 tools, I only had the choice of Pocket PC 2003 Device and Pocket PC 2003 Emulator.>>>

So are you saying after you installed Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK, Visual Studio 5 DCS and Visual Studio 2005, you get an option in the project to select WINDOWS Mobile 5 device in addition to pocketPC 2003 device and emulator?

You need six things to have the ability to develop for a device or emulator that is strictly Windows Mobile 5.0:
  • Visual Studio 2005 Standard or Professional Edition
  • ActiveSync 4.1 or later
  • Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK for Pocket PC
  • Visual Studio 2005 Device Command Shell (DCS)
  • LabVIEW 8.0.1 update
  • LabVIEW PDA 8.0.1 update
However, if you have a Pocket PC 2003 device showing up, you can develop for it and then it will connect and download to a PDA that has Windows Mobile 5.0.  Mine did.

Hope that this helps,

I loaded everything on my home computer (hp pavilion), including all the visual studio tools for mobile 5.0, and everything works as described.

So, the only conclusion, since you said your experience has been that apps will download through the project explorer using a PC2003 device target with mobile 5.0 devices and I have also confirmed this with my home computer, is that there is something unique about my work laptop. I would have to think that it has something to do with the Global Client operating system Load and security we use at work.

My work laptop is being replaced soon. When I get the new laptop I'll compare its operation against a work laptop that does not have the Global Client Load and see if I can get to the bottom of this.

Thanks again!!!!Smiley Happy

Can you tell me what order you loaded your apps?  I loaded LabVIEW 8.0 Professional, PDA module 8.0 then loaded 8.01 both modules.  I mass compiled LV, then loaded MS Visual Studio 2005, then the  DCS app, ran LV and then VS.  I closed both apps and then ran LV 8.01 again. I tried downloading an app into my SmartPhone running Windows Mobile 5.0 and it hangsSmiley Sad

Geez, I really need the debugging features and this is getting to me.

I forgot to mention I loaded the Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK after the DCS.

rberger,

I loaded my app to a sprint pcs 6700 pda/cell and everything worked as described. I'm not sure that you need it, but did you also load the 5.0 phone SDK?  I have that loaded also.

Yes, the Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK was installed on the host computer after I installed the DCS.

OK folks, here is the deal.  After installing all the component, you need to MAKE SURE all of your files in your project are WM5.0.  I had a project that was PocketPC 2003 and nowhere in that project theres is any warning that you're gonna download to a WM5.0 device.

So I created a new project targeting a Windows Mobile 5.0 device, added my PocketPC 2003 app to the WM 5.0 project, while downloading, the app was re-compile and saved and everything worked!  Now I'm a happy camper.  Just make sure if you have older existing code, create a new project for Windows Mobile 5.0 and add your old file into that project.  Hope this will help others.

Hi,

What did you use to connect the PC and PDA?    Does it have to be a crossover?
