How to output current function (number of points) to the pc?

I used attached vi for reading the number of points of 8510A.

but I did not get an output. 8510A CRT display syntax error.

can you help me?

How does the 50 byte returned string look like?

If I used

"CENT;OUTPACTI;" or 

"SPAN;OUTPACTI; or

"STAR;OUTPACTI;" or

"STOP;OUTPACTI;"

 instead of "POIN;OUTPACTI;"

This VI gets correct outputs.

That is, I can not get number of points as an output by this vi.

why?

Some wild guesses:

• The instrument is not in a mode where this function is appropriate.
• You need a firmware update for the instrument. What is your firmware? (Manual says: "For use with Firmware Revision C.07.XX with CRT display")

I think I can not get the number of points by this VI, because of, the number of points is not current active function on 8510 display.

How do I show num of points on display?

Hi,

This Agilent analyzer has a pretty thick manual, but I am sure the method for changing the display mode is included somewhere. Let us know if you're having any issues using the drivers for this device, but unfortunately our knowledge of Agilent hardware may be a little limited. You may have better luck asking Agilent about the correct procedure if you're unable to find it in the manual.
