File request and saving

Hi, i could do with a couple of suggestions with this problem. the problem is that i have an instrument that outputs data once every 52 secs as an ascii file and then gets overwritten. My program currently takes in voltage and saves the results as an excel file. i want to be able to add the data to this excel file by importing this data from the file every 52 secs and exporting this data as the same excel files used for the voltage data. any suggestions greatly appreciated.

You can open the ascii file as read-only, read and format the data, then add it to the excel file. Is there any reason you can not communicate directly with the instrument?
