File I/O Error on saving

I tend to get the following message rather a lot when I try to save a vi.

Labview : Generic File I/O Error  Cannot save VI "*.vi"

I can get around it by doing a save as and then rena me the file and then another save as and save it back to the original file name, but this is getting to be a real nuisance!

Any ideas on how to make it go away?

Thanks

Alec

Too many unknowns:
  • Is it always the same VI?
  • How big is the VI?
  • Are you saving to the local disk, or to a network share?
  • Did you perform a disk check?

Hi smercurio_fc

Thanks for the response.

It's lots of different vi's.
Some are as big as 2MB, some 50kB.
I am saving them all to the companies network
I haven't performed any disk checks.  I suppose I could ask IT to.
I haven't had any problems saving files of any other programs (Word or Excel) so I suspect it isn't a drive issue.

As soon as you said that you're saving to the network red lights started flashing. Check this thread for more details. This seems to be related to LabVIEW 8.20. You should save to the local drive and then use a folder comparison tool (e.g., Beyond Compare), or better yet, a source code control tool to sync up with the server. This is what I do, and I've never had a problem.
