FPGA Block RAM Memory Size

Hi,

I have a NI-7833R and I'm trying to create a 2-D lookup table using block RAMs. Would anyone happen to know how much RAM is available? Saw someting about 192kb or onboard RAM and 1700kb or embedded RAM. Not sure which one applies in this case. Any help would be nice.

Hi Herrick,

The size of the embedded block RAM on the PCI-7833R and PXI-7833R is 1728 kb.  You can find this on page 4 of the specifications or in the Virtex-II 3000 column of Table 1 here

Dumb question I know, but I must ask for my own clarification:  The spec says 1728 kbits - this means 432000 bytes, or 54000 U32's for instance in a Memory block?

And a followup.  How is this memory used up in applications?  What things deplete this pool?  FIFOs, Memory blocks, anything else?

Thanks for the clarification,

Hi,

1728 kbits = 216 kbytes.  The block memory is used for memory blocks and DMA FIFOs.
