DAQmx Timing

I'm collecting data using DAQmx and it is my understanding that the DAQmx read.vi controls the execution rate of the while loop.  I'm trying to implement a simple timer shown in the attached picture.  However, when the timer is activated the collection of data becomes unsettled and I assume it has something to do with the timing I have in the timing case structure.  Any suggestions?

Try removing the execution timing from the case structure and see what happens.
