Can't install LabView 8.2 to non-default directory (Linux)

Hi there,

The installation guide for LabView 8.2 (Linux) says that the INSTALL script should ask which directory I would like to install to (with a default to /usr/local/natinst/Labview-8.2/).

When I install it, I am never asked for an alternate installation directory, and so it is always installed in the default.  I am using Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, and rpm-4.3.3-22_nonptl.

Any advice?  Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,
Tobin

Hello Tobin,

This is Dominic L. from Applications Engineering at National Instruments. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 is not officially supported by us, however, I will do my best to assist you. We have a Linux test machine that I log into remotely using Telnet. If you really need to create an alternate installation directory you might want to try changing the DFLTPREFIX variable in line 81 of the LabVIEW 8.2 install script. This might work for LabVIEW, however, it might not if you have drivers included.

I hope this helps. If not, then I recommend keeping the current default installation directory if you can.

Thanks so much and have a nice evening!

Best Regards,

Dominic L.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried your suggestion, but that only changed the directory where the example-finder was installed.  The main labview program still installed to /usr/local.

It's odd that it never even asks me whether I want to choose an alternate directory.

Hello Tobin,

I'm sorry to hear you are still having problems choosing an alternate installation directory. Like I mentioned in the last thread, unfortunately we do not officially support this, so it might be tough to find a solution. However, I will look into this further and hopefully find a solution for you. I will certainly let you know if I come up with anything.

Thanks again and have a nice evening Tobin!

Best Regards,

Dominic L.
