Hi KC,
I apologize for not getting back to you, I have been in training most of last week. My last suggestion, before reinstall, is to try the build on another PC.
Please let me know how you get on.
Thanks,

Hi Andrew,
That’s OK, I am not in a hurry. I can still use 8.5.1 to build an installer.
Unfortunately my PC is the only one with LV but I will see what I can do.

Hi Andrew,
I tried a few things:
-1- I ran a repair for the 8.6 version. At the end the installer asked for the 8.6 beta CD !!
I don’t have the beta install anymore (8.6 beta was installed) so I quit the repair at that point.
Result from the installer build still the same (No file, dir or log created)
-2- Because the installer was asking for 8.6 beta I decided to uninstall 8.6. After the uninstall the 8.6 directory was still present so I also deleted this directory.
-3- I installed 8.6 from the DVD and restarted the computer
-4- The first thing I tried was building an installer. No LV tells me it is missing VI’s from location “C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.6\applibs”
The “applibs” directory does not even exist !!!
-5- Tried to be clever
Copied the “applibs” from 8.5 and ran the repair again. All directories (in the 8.6 directory) are updated except the “applibs” directory.
-6- Trying to build the installer with the copied 8.5 “applibs” directory does not work. Well that is the only II expected.
-7- What is next Windows XP reinstall ?? No way !!

Hi K C,
Which version of LabVIEW are you installing? Is it the 8.6. Professional? The applibs directory should have been installed and I am not sure why that has not happened. Did you use and install the beta version of 8.6? I wonder if that could be conflicting with 8.6.
Thanks,

Hi Andrew,
Yes, it is 8.6 Professional and yes there was a beta version present.
Like I said in point 2 I had to delete the 8.6 map manually.
Looking back, I think it was better if I did a uninstall of the beta version before installing the released version 8.6
Hope you still have a few suggestions to solve this.

Hi KC,
This certainly is a difficult problem. I wondered if you could look in the system registry and see if there are any obvious references to 8.6 beta? You can access the system registry by running regedit. I strongly recommend that you back anything up that is important as playing with the registry can ruin your PC. If there are no references to 8.6 beta, you could try removing all of the 8.6 keys, after you have uninstalled the program. I don't know if this will fix the issue but it may.
It could be worth running a registry clean up utility after you have removed LabVIEW 8.6. this may remove any keys that are affecting your installation.
Hope this helps,

Hi KC,
I have been speaking to some colleages about your problem. They suggest that you get in touch with your local NI office and speak to them about uninstalling LabVIEW 8.6. as they will be better placed to advise you on removing all the correct registry keys.
Thanks,

Hi Andrew,
I already asked our local NI for help twice through the normal channels.
I did get the automated conformation from NI but no response yet from an engineer. ![]()
I will phone them.
Thank you for help and I will let you know the outcome.

Hello KC,
I'm sorry for the delay; this morning e-mailed you some instructions to uninstall and remove items from the Windows registry. Please let me know if this works.
Best regards,
