8.0 automatically changes the edit tool (pointer,wire,text) does 4.0 do this?

I am having great difficulty designing with labview 4.0 because i have to keep pressing the tab key to switch the edit tool from pointer to wire to text.  I noticed that labview 8.0 does this automatically.  Is there a menu option in 4.0 to do this?

No. The auto-tool option wasn't added until v7.0. You can also use the space bar to just switch between pointer and wire tool.

Can this go the opposite way?  I'm using LabVIEW 8.0, and I want to use the tab key to switch cursors, but I can't.  Can the "auto-cursor" be shut off?  Also, does anyone know if I can modify a vi in LabVIEW 8.0 but make it backward compatible with LabVIEW 7.1?

To shut off the autotool: Tool->Options




To back-save: File->Save for Previous Version.
