USB-GPIB HS driver error

Hi,
I have Downloaded and installed VISA 3.2 and NI488.2 ver 2 (see below System Info) and trying to use an GPIB-USB-HS plug. The MS Device Driver Window indicates an Error and the MAX doesn't indice him at all. Using another Computer, all works fine.
I have tried to reinstall 488.2 but this doesn't work either.
What is the problem?

The problematic computer has this info:

What is the make and model of the computer which is not working?  Is it the same as the one that does work?

Thanks,

Hi JAson,
Both are laptops (one Dell other Toshiba) with XP brandnew, so the computer is not necessarily the issue. I tend more to suspect the VISA version. I downloaded the latest VISA from the net recently and theother computer has a 6 month old VISA. The question is if my suspicion is justified...

No, NI-VISA should not affect whether the device is detected and installed in Device Manager, this is really dependant on the NI-488.2 driver.  Although NI-VISA itself should not affect the device enumeration, NI-VISA and NI-488.2 share several common components which could be seeing compatibility issues with the hardware you are running on.

It may be possible to download a newer version of NI-VISA than what you are using.  This will update some of the components which are shared with NI-488.2, and could possibly solve some compatibility issues.  I would recommend that you download and install NI-VISA 4.0, and let us know if that helps the problem at all.

If that does not solve the problem, can you post a screen shot of the error you see in Device Manager?

Thanks,

Jason S.

Hi Jason,

Is there any reason I can't get to your server via ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/visa/drivers/win32/4.0/visa400full.exe ?

Hi Jason,
I have installed VISA 4,0 as you can see below.
I have plugged the USB-GPIB-HS and indicated 3 beeps (I have 3 USB devices), which is the unusual sound.
I sill have problems to see the connection in MAX and in the Device Manager I can indicate that my USB Device has a problem.
I start to get worry that it never will work, I have a brandnew TOSHIBA laptop.
Regards

I have been trying to replicate this issue on a test machine here, but have been unsuccessful.  I found the following document regarding GPIB-USB-A Installation Problems, but I do not believe that affects the later versions of NI-488.2 (Although you could check your registry permissions nonetheless).

Some possible steps you could take:

1. Disable any antivirus software that you may have running, which could possibly be blocking the driver installation

2. You mentioned this is a new XP installation.  Did you install other software which could be causing problems?  Can you replicate the problem on a brand new clean installation of Windows XP prior to installing other software packages?

3. You may request to participate in the NI-488.2 v2.5 beta program at the NI Beta Website, to see if it improves the behavior you are seeing.

Hi Jason,

I have updated the document with necessary information about the actions that I performed. Non of them helped.

I haven't tried yet the disable of the Antivirus, for that I will have to ask our Admin.

I will forward this to TOSHIBA as well.

Thanks for any other hint.
