NI USB GPIB Controller

Hi All,

I had NI HS-USB-GPIB Controller and keithley USB-488 Controller

Initially i was able to control instruments with NI HS-USB-GPIB Controller

Later i want to use  keithley USB-USB Controller so i installed driver given by keithley USB-488 Controller

Now i want to revert back to NI GPIB controller

My problem i have uninstalled 488 GPIB driver given by keithley, installed NI USB-GPIB Controller drivers

I was able to see the controller and Instrument  connected in the MAX, but i was not able to see it in labVIEW VISA control

could you suggest where problem could be

Thanks

Hello Appala,

I am unsure about what the problem could be.  What versions of NI-488.2 and 488 GPIB were you using?

Also, you mentioned that you are able to communicate with the device (scan for instruments worked correctly), is this still correct?

Thanks,

Steven T.

Since MAX does not use VISA to communicate to an instrument, it sounds like you just don't have that installed or still have a Keithley version installed.

OMG!

Like you can't define a VISA sesion to the device...

Keithley submits drivers to the NI web-site in (almost) real time

Primarilliy because the XXxx01 has a FW update "flash-port" abd is,(by mfg spec) "488.2 compliant " , goes to < gotos?> an unk state when it receives  <"IDN?">

Don't *IDN?  a kiethley instrument (It will hang up)

Don't *IFC  while an unkown instrumet is hanging on GPIB:x  (some controleres take this as "QU"- or "Quit Controlling"

READ the MFG users guides

DO NOT assume that a spec will tell you that a device isn't (really) 488.2

ANOTHER (488.2) NON-compliant device!

Anyone care to make a comprehensive list?

The 488 driver is completely separate from the VISA driver. Verify in MAX what you have installed. If you don't have NI-VISA installed, then it's pretty clear that would be a problem.
