Some code samples can lock up the browser

I wanted to show the javascript code (now shown in the spoiler tags here), so I clicked the button [Insert/edit code sample], pasted the javascript code, and selected javascript. Page becomes unresponsive.

Why isn't there a "plain text" option? Sometimes we just want to post plain text!

What does the tool actually do based on the "Language" selection?
