Editing old posts, incorporating pics (as pics) in posts, LabVIEW badge cheat

Cautious Greetings!,
Having just read the posting FAQ and not finding answers to these questions (which isn't to say they weren't there...)

Is this the right place to post very general questions, specifically:

Can anyone edit their own posts?  I see that others have done so, but don't appear to have the option myself - wait a minute, perhaps it requires Java Scripting to be enabled?

Some posts include pics (as pics) at the bottom of posts.  Is this something everybody should be capable of?  (even the "challenged" deNIzens.)

Your help and patience is appreciated.

... Oh yeah, Is there a quick (free) way to boost my LabVIEW experience-level as indicated by the three-section badge associated with member-names?  ( I'm just kidding - unless the answer is yes, in which case, how?)

There is a time limit. You can only edit your post for a few minutes after posting. Simply click on "Options" in the upper right corner. If the first options is edit, you can still edit your post.

Just add your picture as attachment. You can also include plain image links to external images hosted elsewhere. Some people add such to their signature. Edit your signature in your personal profile to include a valid image link.

In addition to Altenbach:

You can insert the image in the message by clicking the Insert an Image button, but you have to have a URL, so what people do is to post the message with the attachment, edit it, copy the URL of the attachment and use that.
With some trickery you can do this by figuring the address for the attachment without editing. The structure for an attachment URL is
or (if you add more attachments after editing), not 1 but sequential numbers. The trick is the post number. The numbers are sequential per board, so after writing your posts, you have to find out the number of the newest message in the board and use the following number. If someone had time to post another message before you, you can edit and correct.

As for the ratings, you can find the exact numbers here. You can see a list of the posters by going to the thread floated to the top of the board. The LIST starts from 50 posts, but CC does not scan the NI server for new users every week, so it may be a few weeks before you make it in there. You can inform him you crossed the barrier if you really want to get in there.

Thanks for the info. Folks - I'll know to look for the "edit" option next time I post 6 "Hi All,"s in a row with no content.  Also, looking forward, to messing-around with inserting images.  That's pretty cool, figure-out where the img is on NI's server, then embed a URL to it.  Note, tst, I haven't seen an "Insert an Image" button - just the "Attachment" w/Browse-filetypes box - figure that's what you mean(?)...

500 clicks? no-prob, check's in the mail... Now, how much for the cool "LabVIEW Champion" sticker?

Regards.

Assuming you use the standard editing mode, you should have a row of buttons just above the text window where you write your post. One of these is the one I refered to.
If you use the classic approach, you need to use the HTML tag (which as you can see, isn't processed as HTML in the standard mode).

Oh, and please don't post BMPs. Use GIFs or JPGs instead (I prefer not to use PNG because not all browsers have plugins for them yet).

... And I thought is was 'cus I left the quotes off the URL!

Ok, Many thanks tst.  (please be advised this is (with, possibly a _few_ exceptions) the last time I'll ever use a .BMP)

Cheers!

Please ignore this post. I am trying to follow tst's tip about working with URLs in message attachments. (I have this neat GIF that I want to use as a personal icon, but our company network will not let me generate a URL for it.)

Hey! it worked! That must be worth another 5 stars.

If you ever want to replace it with another icon, that's what the icons thread was created for.
An important point about this is the system apparently only recognizes the files if the extension is in lowercase.

Thanks. I didn't know that thread existed. Any way of getting such useful tips into the FAQ?

You can try adding a request to this thread, but I'm not sure Molly will want to include this in the FAQ as an "official" solution to the icon hosting problem. She's most likely at NIWeek, so you may not get an answer for a few days.
