Thanks everyone, I'll look into discount flights and see how best to merge a business and personal trip to Chicago into one 😄

Good music in "Chicagoland" too, if you like blues, jazz. Probably others, but that was all I was searching for at the time.

I love jazz, and theatre. I think it could be quite entertaining 🙂

All I know is don't ask for what you most likely classify as "pizza" (thin base) in Chicago.  They have mostly deep-pan pizza there.

Yes, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are my references.

While we are known for our deep dish (and stuffed) pizza you can find some excellent thin crust pizza as well. There are tons of mom and pop neighborhood pizza joints that have great thin crust pizza.

As far as advice of where to stay it will really depend on where you will be working. I imagine you will want to be relatively close to avoid sitting in lots of traffic. Knowing where you will be working would help quite a bit.

The crime here in general is not any worse than other large cities. Yes, the number of murders in the city is often mentioned but in reality they are very concentrated in a few areas and are basically gang on gang violence. These are also areas I doubt you will be going to. If you will be around O'Hare or downtown you really won't have anything to worry about.

Chicago has some great theater as well as the music already mentioned. If you plan on going to a show I would recommend getting your tickets early. They are often sold out.

Our weather has been quite strange this year and we have had one of the coldest winters on record. That means that we will have a cool spring. I would suggest that you at least bring a light jacket with you. It should be nice during the day but may be cool at night, especially if you are down near the lake.

I found out the hard way once that if it is nighttime in July, you may actually need a winter coat.

(Went to a baseball game at new Comiskey on a nice summer's night.  Wondered why people were wearing coats.  They didn't when I went to the game the night before.  I found out why about the 5th inning when the winds shifted.)

A Chicago style hot dog is something else you should try. However, do not ask for ketchup. Some places do treat that as a crime.:-)

You can say that again.
