Rube Goldberg Code

Instead of 1 case structure with 10 cases, let's deeply embed 10 True/False case structures with all of the corresponding string comparisons that need to go along with it.

Seen here.

Oh, My, God.

Hey, he just wanted to make the code JUMP OUT AT YOU! It's like those hidden pictures. Cross your eyes and slowly move away from your screen

Unless you get nauseous easily, in which case it may be best not to.

If one event structure is good, NINE must be even better!

Just in case one of the other structures doesn't actually capture the event, you know.  This way it won't be missed.

Smiley Surprised

It's important to plan for these things...?

Interesting choice of timeouts. I wonder what the thought process was to make some 100ms and some 500ms.

Since the loop can only spin when all timeouts have expired, the longest timeout determines the loop rate.

Of course if one of the events fires, its timeout gets reset and the entire loop stalls for even longer.

If you enjoy this code, you might also enjoy running around with your shoelaces tied together... 😄

Now I'm not generally one to post links to random videos,

but since this is the Rube Goldberg thread, and this is the most elaborate Rube Goldberg setup I've seen thus far

I figured I would share it.

Judging by the inefficiency, redundancy and overall Rube Goldberg nature of the setup, I would hypothesize that this is government work Smiley Wink

That's pretty cool. I love all that duct tape! 😮

My benchmark for an actual Rube Goldberg Machine is the 1987 installation "Der Lauf Der Dinge" by two Swiss artists. It goes on for nearly 30 minutes.

I actually have the DVD in my collection. 😄

(Wow, it's no longer available directly from amazon and the prices went up at the same time! I got it for about $10)

I'm guessing whoever did that lives alone. ;).

My main problem with it is that it has cuts a few times, so it's not one continuous machine. The classic Honda Cog ad also has this, although it's edited very well, so it's not noticable.
