Since I will have some free time coming up, I have been thinking about getting into computer vision.

A post on the LabVIEW board by Bob Schor about using $80 Logitech webcam got me to thinking whether there is a cheaper alternative to learning computer vision without investing in NI Vision software.

Does anyone have experience with OpenCV?

I know that I am responding to an old thread but may I suggest you look at the JeVois Smart Machine Vision camera. We will be using a few of these camera's on the FIRST FRC robotics team that I mentor. This is an amazing camera and a good way to learn OpenCV. It is a very impressive camera especially given the low cost.
