Musicians Central

I've had this theory for a while now that if you're in a job that is primarily a "left brain" activity, that is one that requires problem solving and analysis skills, then unless you involve yourself outside work in some "right brain", creative or artistic activity then you will probably develop a severe cranial tilt. For example ...
At the company I work at, which is about 80 people, of which I guess 60 are engineering staff we have the following ...

9 Guitarists, 2 Drummers, 2 Keyboardists, 2 Sax players

Which I reckon is 1 person in 4 !
I'm betting that among the LabView community there is a wealth of musical talent.
So here's a chance to wax lyrical about all things musical from Abba to Zappa, accordians to zithers, indeed whatever rings your musical bell, so to speak. 😉

Personally, I've been playing guitar for far too long ... 😄

Unfortunately, while being musical, I have completely failed in every instrument I tried learning (all two of them), mainly due to lack of practice brought on by an acute case of laziness. I can manage stuff on both the guitar and a keyboard, but I can't really play. My brother in law plays the guitar quite beatifully and I always envy him. Maybe one day, when I manage to overcome my laziness (probably a matter of how much free time I have and what I do with it), I will learn how to play the guitar.
Maybe you should start an LV band. I can see the titles already: "Ode to an orange wire", "Hey, where did my data go?" and "How long do YOU take to write a program?". You can also do what you've already suggested in another thread and use LV to improve your control over the instrument. How about using it to create distortions for the guitar?
BTW, ZZ Top should appear after Frank Zappa.

Lazy you say ?
I wouldn't rate your input to the forum as lazy ... prolific maybe but lazy, errr ... no.
If you could tap into that enthusiasm you'd be cooking ! 😄

Hi

Music is always a topic to talk about ;).

I've learned to play organ for about 8 years - but as I grew older my musical interests changed and I found it boring to play such an "uncool" instrument. Due to my favorite music I thought about learning different instruments (drums, bass-guitar or guitar) but couldn't manage to buy one.
But soon I got the offer for a guitar-set and I thought it was that cheap that I have to buy it. After that years passed by and I always said that I was going to learn it. After almost 10 years of just picking strings (maybe tst knows this feeling ;)), I signed in at a music-school last year.
There's also a funny story linked to that topic - last year I joined an english-course and met there a guitar-teacher (who I was recommended to go to learn the guitar). So we got in touch and finally I started to learn it.
Although my fingers are very stiff I practice a lot and hope to become a new guitar-hero :D.

Yeah, I love music. I am making my own home recording studio. I have a Behringer's mixer and a compressor, Yamaha MOTIF tone generator, Cakewalk software, some nice microphones, musical instruments, etc. I already recorded a production for a friend. You can hear excerpts here: www.fredysarbel.com. (Note: The page is also in English. This was just my first take.) I am saving to get a good voice processor.

I used to be pretty good on the keyboard, but then I moved on to the mouse........

I have no musical bone in my body, except maybe for those in my innear ear.... I can hear a mean rhythm....

Oh well.

Shane.

Looks like the LV band is coming together quite nicely ...
Thats me and Tst on guitars, Thomas on keyboards, Shane on drums (?).
We can drop in at Enrique's to "cut a few tracks" ... then it's "look out world" ... 😮

What about CC though with that nasty eye problem ? Roadie maybe ? 😄

Mostly self-taught guitarist here, as Neil knows since we've already discussed music here n' there. Please note, I did NOT say I was any good!!

But some of my faves...hmmmm...that depends on the mood I'm in. I like Nuno Bettencourt, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eddie VH, Eric Johnson, please don't hurt me but I always thought Prince was a rather wicked guitarist, whats-his-face from Rage Against the Machine (he makes great "noise"), Vinnie Moore, anyone named Steve who played for Yes at some point in their life, Joe Pass, and of course Johnny Ramone!
