Darin & Jim,
I read in a book, once upon a time, that a true "sw guy" was someone who could code using regular expressions.
I can't quote the passage or the author or the title, 'cause it's so long ago.
So not only should you both get the Geek award, you are crowned with the "true SW guys" title.
Maybe Darin's tool will help me graduate to that level.. And Unix will love me for it. 😉

Darin.K, thanks for your help again. I've put your regexp tester into my /project folder. I learned to use variants this way from your post here.
I was away, but I knew that you'd have the regex's back. One of the best things about regexes is that there are often many ways to do the same job, which leaves room for artistry and creativity. It is funny how much time you can spend honing an expression, it seems like there is always one extra character in there.
Comments? I am usually inclined to simply include the usual URL.

I like the Variant trick and use it in several places like this one. I started out using it because it is compact, then it turns out to have super powers. So of course now my story is that I use it for its log(n) efficiency.
Rock on.

Hey guys
My deepest thanks to all of you.
This regex thing was quietly killing me. You know... the feeling you have when you discover suddenly that you are "inappropriate". I mean when you feel that every experience you have accumulated along your life is worthless. Your comments regarding both complexity and efficiency are really helpfull. I now know that I'm not alone in the darkness...
Cheers !

CC,
You're never alone. Not with all your friends on this forum.
How have you been? Hope health is good.

Salut Monsieur Robicheau,
Thanks for caring. Health is still fine. I'm really lucky.
I have been busy for months. I have now some spare time to share with the community. I should thank a bunch of collegues who asked for an initiation to LabVIEW. So I had to prepare a series of exercices/problems to illustrate my teaching. Nothing better than the forums to find fun ideas (the Rube Goldberg thread is a jewel !).
Hope I'll have enough time to reach the 5000 level... 😉

Glad to hear you are doing well. And glad to see you back on the forums. Now you need to set up a LabVIEW control based micro-brewery in a cave 🙂

Charly, don't look:
Personally, I can't stand regexes, but I recognize their usefulness under certain circumstances.

That is great. Your regular expressions guy needed a cape. ![]()

I saw the vine our hero swung in on and immediately thought "George of the Jungle". Loin cloth anybody?

The first thing I thought about when I saw the "PERL" bubble was that he crashed into the computer, ala George of the Jungle crashing into the tree.
